Movie: ROBOTS
Director: CHRIS WEDGE
Genre: Animation, Comedy
Cast:Ewan Mcgregor, Robin Williams, Greg Kinnear, Halle Berry
Duration: 1h 20m (app)

'Robots' the animation flick follows the protagonist Rodney Copperbottom who comes to fore as the 'Hero of the Masses'. The story is quite corny and nothing much can be expected out of it. It highlights dreams and pursuing your passion in words but nothing gets into its soul. However its an animation cadre movie and we need not be that critical in analysing this.

A really funny movie that provides a good timepass stuff with definite laughs provided by the character 'Fender' voiced by Robin Williams. Robin Williams known for his voicing histrionics does'nt fail to impress. Ewan Mcgregor voices the protagonist while Halle Berry does'nt have enough words to mouth. Greg Kinnear voices the villianous character 'Ratchett'.

A fast paced hero oriented movie but does entertain you if you don’t expect much from its story.

PROS
Fender (Robin Williams), Comedy

Movie: KING KONG
Director: PETER JACKSON
Genre: Horror(thats what is termed in Yahoo), Romance(damn!), Action, Comedy(Yeah! This is there in plenty.)
Cast: Hero - King Kong or Adrein Brody(confused!#$) : Heroin - Naomi Watts
Duration: 3h 15m (app)

‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ - reads the Caption. True, but with the difference - it made me wonder not eight but eighty times about one scene which could be held as a wonder rather atleast a spectacular. Fine. I wasted three hours trying to probe, not to forget mentioning the 70 bugs I spent for the theatre(and 45/- for the sweetcorn).

If Peter Jackson thought that special effects might just be enough to make a good film, he is wrong. Its just worth making a film animated rather than being soulful. Remake of the ‘1933-what they call a classic’ movie proved his faithfulness towards the original rather towards entertaining good cinema.

The romantic scenes(I am sorry, I donot know what else to call them) between King Kong and Naomi Watts were prolonged and mawkish that started testing my patience in the later half of the movie(the 1st half was much better). The special effects though falls below the line of expectations, certain scenes with respect to the dinosaurs and other blah blah creatures were well done. Logic and Pragmatism are factors that can never be equated to this movie. This movie except for some violent scenes may well be suited for kids(age 5-14), but adults – its definitely not worth it.

PROS
Comedy(sometimes a parody), Rarely Special Effects, For Kids, KING KONG

CONS
Formula Oriented Movie, 3 hours, everything else other than the PROS mentioned

Movie: SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE
Director: JOHN MADDEN
Genre: Fictional/Historical, Comedy, Drama
Cast:Gwyneth Paltrow, Joseph Fiennes, Ben Affleck, Geoffrey Rush
Duration: 2h 05m (app)

Love - Its a 'New' World
Love - Its a 'New' LifeNo wonder
Shakespeare was obsessed with it. Its 'New' probably which inspired Shakespeare(Dont forget that 30000 of the 50000 words(app) he used were "New" to English) to create themes that are widely recognised as classics. The Movie 'Shakespeare in Love' is not entirely factual. Its got its terms of Fiction with the chronologies overlapping or inaccurate...but probably that too was a tribute to the Poet known for his anachronisms.

'Shakepeare in Love' is a wonderful Movie that traces the creation of one of the classic love story 'Romeo and Juliet'. The instances which Shakespeare experienced in reality that converted his mirages into visuals is beautifully interwoven in celluloid by Director John Madden. The visuals are stunning and the montages of the play's conceivement are enjoyable. The highlight of this movie is its comedy - unique in its own kind. The natural comic retorts that forms an integral part throughout the movie is enjoyable and entertaining. The Camera and Music add flavour to the movie's sweetness.

The climax is fitting for such a film based on the theme of 'inspired creation' when William Shakespeare continues his next play 'The Twelfth Night' with the image of the lead character walking on the sun-bathed golden soil.

PROS
Comedy, Montages

CONS
Nothing that bad...Joseph Fiennes was good but could have done better

COMMENTS
Enjoyable, Entertaining and Artistic.

Movie: IRUVAR (Tamil)
Director: MANI RATNAM
Genre: Historic/Fictional, Drama, Period, Musical
Cast:Mohan Lal, PrakashRaj, Aishwarya Rai
Duration: 2h 37m (app)

‘The Tale of Two Personalities’ is what 'IRUVAR' is all about. A fictional wrapper cloaked around the lifetimes of M.G.Ramachandran and M.Karunanidhi is brought to the visual celluloid by one of the better Indian Movie Maker Mani Ratnam.

Revolving around the characters of Anandan and Tamilselvan in the respective order, their blossoms of friendship, the differences, their dignified animosity is pictured with dexterity. The scenes regarding the dialogue exchange between the two individuals are the best moments in the movie. The dignified ways of their egoism definitely carves a niche as one of the well made scenes in movies.

The characterisation needs an applause. Be it the elite-Tamilselvan or the lovable-Anandan ManiRatnam's screenplay sure needs to be lauded. The actors provide life to the movie. Mohan Lal(Anandan) and Prakashraj(TamilSelvan) are at their potential best. Santosh Sivan with his soulful cinematography provides a mood which fits the aura of this 'period masterpiece'. Music for this film does not come at ease, but with A.R.Rahman around its no wonder. His songs are excellent, but his best package comes in the form of the BGM-One of the best soundtracks done for Cinema.A Wonderful Movie by a Wonderful Team.

PROS
Scenes between Anandan & Tamilselvan, The whole Team (Acting, direction, Camera, Music)

CONS
Aishwarya Rai

COMMENTS

Movie: FORREST GUMP
Director: ROBERT ZEMECKIS
Genre: Adaptation, Coming-of-Age, Comedy, Emotional Drama
Cast:Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Robin Wright Penn, Sally Field
Duration: 2h 20m (app)

The Review for this movie is long overdue, that has me write after 10 watchings. Fine, the first plus-point is that the soul remains untanned even after screening No.10. Let me not elaborate on the positives because it might necessitate a thesis. But still ‘Forrest Gump’ drives me to do nothing but applaud.

The first movie that made a strong impression in my love for cinema. Robert Zemeckis is a director to watch. After his ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy his enchanting U-Turn towards Forrest Gump is nothing short of a genius. Tom Hanks provides the life and breath to the character of the protagonist.

The characters revolving around Forrest, their philosophies of life are terms to cherish. The feather wafting through the air provides chills to the mood of the film. The crisp and cynical visuals provide to be Emotional and Heart-Warming. Goose-Bumps are available in plenty if you’re interested in watching ‘Forrest Gump’.

In short, it’s a classic. A MUST WATCH.

PROS
You Name it, its there (Special Mention: The Feather)
